House Siding Cleaning

Are you thinking about pressure washing your house?

Before you do it yourself or hire someone to do it, read this article carefully.

Pressure washers are becoming more and more popular these days. It seems everyone is getting their hands on one. They are versatile and can be used for cleaning many surfaces such as your car, your deck, stone patios, driveways, and even your vinyl siding. However just because you have one, doesn’t mean you should go ahead and blast away everything that is dirty. Just like the famous Spider-man line ‘’With great power comes great responsibility!’’ You must be very careful when using this tool as it can be very easy to damage your precious assets.

Here are some of the dangers of pressure washing a house

Water infiltration : By blasting the side of your house, even if you stay parallel with the vinyl when spraying, you are most likely going to have water run underneath your vinyl and start creating moisture behind your siding. Once there is moisture, it creates a perfect environment for mold and mildew to start growing.

Damage caulking : when pressure washing around windows, you can accidentally blow away pieces of caulking that are essential for keeping a good air distribution in your home.

Damage air vents : Air vent frames can also be easily damaged by applying too much pressure.

Damage vinyl : You can also bore a hole in the vinyl, create streaks and disturb the oxidation on vinyl.

Damage aged mortar around brick : If your house has brick, pieces of mortar can fly off leaving you with an extra job you didn’t think you needed to do.

Here are the steps we take when cleaning a house professionally

1. House protection

First off we pull all items away from the house, tape off all electrical outlets and cover any valuable flowers.

2. Rinse

Then we give a thorough low-pressure rinse to the siding as well as any plants, shrubs, decks, fences or any other item in the area.

3. Apply detergent

Then we apply an algicide detergent with low pressure, high volume tip. We apply it on the entire surface of the siding, soffits, fascia, and gutters. After just 5 minutes, the detergent will start to kill all mold, mildew, and lichen.

4. Rinse

Then we rinse the siding with a low-pressure tip from top to bottom making sure we rinse off any excess dirt and soap. We also rinse all the plants and shrubs in the area to make sure our solution does not dry on any organic matter.  The pressure is so low, we could literally pass our hand in front of the wand and not feel any pain whatsoever.

5. Inspection

Then we go around the house with a brush and a pole to get rid of any missed spots and stubborn debris.

At this point, your house should look next to brand new and you can have peace of mind that nothing was damaged in the process. It will also last you way longer than a traditional high-pressure cleaning as we have killed and stopped the growth of mildew. Your cleaning should last you at least 5 years.

So if you are thinking about cleaning your siding, hire a professional! It’s worth it!
